Italy’s Auditel needs reform?

Media professionals in Italy are disputing about the effectiveness and neutrality of the Italian system for TV-Rating measurement- Auditel. According to Tom Mockridge, representative of Sky Italia, the shares of the main broadcasting in the holding should be reduced to below 50 %, with the other half left to independent and unbiased institutions. By thеsе means the ratings-measurement could gain in objectivity, regarding the changing context of the Italian television landscape. Such a reform would be inapplicable in Italian context, responds Walter Pancini- director of Auditel, who questions the existence of such independent bodies. Furthermore he stresses on the 30% Share, held by the advertising industry, which could not be delegated to independent institutions without further complications.
