Austria’s ATV Moving to Germany

In the course of globalisation we have already seen number of companies relocating production to other countries in order to optimise production costs. Now this tendency seems to become popular in the traditionally nationally-organised broadcasting sector. Austria’s commercial sender ATV (market share ~4,5%) has been publicly considering moving its headquarters to Germany, where its parent company Tele München Gruppe resides. This is a reaction to Austrian government’s refusal to grant ATV public funding, because of the shrinking revenues from the advertising market. Without public funding or state support ATV would be compelled to think about serious belt-tightening which would result in an eventual administration outsorcing to Germany. Such a move  could endager more than 100 Austrian jobs. Now it’s up to the Austrian government to decide which public interest schould be funded.
