YouTube + Universal= “Vevo”

“Vevo” should be the name of the new platform for music videos initiated by Universal und YouTube. After exhausting copyright conflicts concerning the exploitation of licensed music videos on YouTube, which even lead to the suspension of copyrighted videos in UK and in Germany, the relationship between Google Inc. and the music industry finally get warmer.

The business model of “Vevo” is simple: Universal provides the contents, YouTube- the distribution. The revenues are shared –  50/50.

Further music labels are expected to join the venture in the near future. If this happens, we might finally expect a financially successful business model for the dispersion of music videos in  the world wide web.
