Mediaset and RAI vs. SKY Italia

Television country- Italy – is standing in front of a fierce battle for audience in the time of digital transition. Former rivals – RAI and Mediaset- have already burried the hatchet, because of the emergence of  a common adversary on the frontline- Rupert Murdoch’s SKY Italia. The Pay TV Service is growing faster than expected and is already aiming at significant shares in the Italian digital TV market.

Now mediaset is investing 1 billion euros in digital television.RAI has just approved a contribution of 750 millions. Together with Telecom Italia both broadcasting corporations are working on Italy’s digital Freeview platfform- TIVU, plus a satelite extension for the regions that do not receive DTT.

We’re looking forward to Murdoch’s response.
